| Gateway 2000 Japan to Enhance Web Info Service for PC Buyers

February 3, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Gateway 2000 Japan Inc. is enhancing its
Gateway Status Check information service on its Web site to enable PC
buyers to learn more about the shipment status of the PCs they have
ordered.

A Gateway official said that the company will change the Web site name
to Gateway Status Check 2 and begin the service in mid-February.
Gateway Status Check 2 will add four items of information: the stage
prior to production, start of manufacturing, production completed, and
transportation. They will be added to the three items of information
-- in process of production, in preparation for shipment, and shipment
-- that the current Check page provides.
The Check 2 will provide more detailed information on the production
line.
Information on the 24-hour Check 2, which will be updated four times
a day, is to be forwarded to users with email addresses after orders
are placed. Order numbers and customer IDs are needed to log on the
Web site.
