Inprise Japan Introduces Japanese RDBMS for Linux

February 4, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Inprise Co., Ltd. of Japan announced the
availability of a relational database management system for the Linux
operating system called "InterBase 5 for Linux-J."

Inprise is a subsidiary of Inprise Corp. of the United States,
The product is a Linux version of "InterBase 5" for Windows that was
released for sale in February 1998. The new RDBMS will ship on March
2, 1999.
InterBase requires only 32MB of main memory and 23MB of hard disk drive
space. InterBase 5 for Linux is supported on "Red Hat Linux 5.2" from
Red Hat Software Corp. and its Japanese version.
The price is set at 49,800 yen (US$430), including one server/four client
licenses. An academic package will be made available a 15,000 yen for
students and teachers, since Linux is widely used in educational institutions.
A sales campaign will be carried on for a limited 2,000 copies until
the end of August 1999 at a price of 25,000 yen (US$215) and an academic
price of 9,800 yen (US$85).
This product will be sold through partners or leading retailers such
as RIOS Corp., Canon Sales Co., Inc. or Nihon Unisys Software Kaisha
Ltd.
