[NET & COM '99] Toshiba Shows Data Communications Card for cdmaOne
|
February 5, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Toshiba Corp. exhibited a sample data communications
adapter for use with "cdmaOne," a service for mobile telephones, at
NET
& COM '99.
|
The cdmaOne system is a new type of mobile telephone
service that Kansai Cellular Telephone Co. and others started in 1998.
DDI-Cellular Group and IDO Corp. plan to provide the service throughout
the country before the end of 1999.
The cdmaOne system enables data to be transmitted at 14.4kbps, a higher
transmission speed than that of the existing digital mobile telephones.
At present, however, an PC card adapter for data communications is not
on the market.
To keep up with IDO's start of the service in Tokyo and its suburbs,
where the strongest demand for mobile computing is expected, Toshiba
intends to release a data communications adapter in April 1999.
