  • Fujitsu to Transfer DRAM Technology to Acer Semi
  • February 17, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Fujitsu Ltd. said it will transfer its 0.20-micron to 0.22-micron design-rule technology to Taiwan-based Acer Semiconductor Manufacturing Inc. (ASMI).
The companies already inked contracts for the technology transfer. ASMI will obtain production technology for 0.20-micron to 0.22-micron design-rule DRAM microchips.

ASMI plans to start producing 64Mb DRAM microchips with a 0.22-micron design rule in the second half of 1999, and then 128Mb and 256Mb DRAM microchips with that design rule by 2001.

In connection with that agreement, Fujitsu obtained the right to entrust ASMI with production of DRAM microchips equivalent to 10,000 wafers a month. As a result, Fujitsu secured its production capacity for DRAM microchips without new investment in its plant and equipment.
