  • Melco Releases Wide-Angle, 15-In. TFT-LCD Monitor
  • January 8, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Melco Inc., a major personal computer peripheral maker, released a 15-in., thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display monitor with a wide angle.
    The new product, called the FTD-XT15F-A, features a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees right and left horizontally and up and down vertically.

    The LCD panel is produced by Fujitsu Ltd. It uses Fujitsu's original wide viewing angle technology, Multi-domain Vertical Alignment (MVA).

    The FTD-XT15F-A lists for 128,000 yen (US$1,125).

    There is an analog interface to a PC. Its display size is 304.1mm x 228.1mm, which is equivalent to a 17-in. cathode ray tube (CRT). It has a pixel pitch of 0.297mm. Its display resolution is 1,024 x 768 dots, and the number of display colors is 262,144.

    The scanning frequency is 24.8k-60.0kHz horizontally and 56-75Hz vertically. Display luminance is 250cd/m2. The contrast ratio is 300:1. The monitor consumes a maximum of 32W.

    Its external size is 396mm wide by 150mm deep by 322mm high, and it weighs 4.8kg.

    Shipments are scheduled in late January 1999. The company plans to sell 2,000 units a month.
