DVS Korea Develops 6.2x DVD-ROM Drive
|
January 28, 1999 (SEOUL) -- DVS Korea said it developed the world's fastest
DVD-ROM drive, which operates at 6.2 times standard reading speed.
|
DVS Korea is the Korean arm of Digital Video Systems Inc. of Los Gatos,
Calif.
"Our 6.2X DVD-ROM drive performs as fast as a 32x CD-ROM drive, which
is able to read data at a speed of 120 milliseconds," a company official
said.
DVS Korea announced last October that it developed 5.2x drives. It started
mass production on them recently.
U.S.-based DVS, which specializes in DVD-ROM products, set up its Korean
subsidiary in June 1998 after taking over the DVD-ROM division of Hyundai
Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. early last year.
