| Five Japanese PC Firms to Use AMD K6-III Microprocessor

March 3, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Five Japanese makers of personal computers,
including Epson Direct Corp., will introduce PCs powered by Advance
Micro Devices Inc.'s new K6-III microprocessor.

In the United States, Compaq Computer Corp. intends to adopt the microprocessor.
AMD announced the new microprocessor on Feb. 22 in the U.S. market.
AMD Japan Ltd. said that the 400MHz K6-III microprocessor is priced at
34,080 yen and the 450HMz K6-III microprocessor carries a price of 57,120
yen, in lots of 1,000 units.
The new K6-III microprocessor is only for desktop PCs, and a model featuring
low power consumption for notebook PCs is scheduled to be marketed by
June 30.
According to AMD Japan, the five PC firms that have announced plans to
introduce PCs with the K6-III microprocessor are Epson Direct and four
PC retailers that sell their own original PCs. They are Ado Electronic
Industrial Co., Ltd., Sofmap Co., Ltd., Tsukumo Electronics Co., Ltd.,
and Freeway Co., Ltd.
Epson Direct said that K6-III microprocessors for regular use have not
yet been delivered. Thus, K6-III-powered PCs aren't available immediately.
