Nifty Asks for Court Injunction Against Spam Mail Sender
|
March 4, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Nifty Corp. asked Tokyo District Court on March
1 for an injunction to prohibit a spam mailer from sending messages
to members of Nifty Serve, its online service.
|
According to Nifty, the spam mail has been sent to random Nifty Serve
members since April 1995. The mail in question advertises the sale of
pornographic videos. It was sent at least four times in January 1999
alone.
The sender does not have a Nifty address, and sent the mail via the Internet.
The company decided to apply for the injunction since the sender would
not be subject to the company's penalty policy, such as the suspension
of Nifty membership.
