HP Japan to Sell Printers Featuring Apple iMac Colors
|
March 11, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. announced that it
will sell two of its existing Windows models of ink-jet printers for
Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh personal computers.
|
These printers are the first ink-jet printers that the company is marketing
in Japan for Macintosh PCs in two years. HP is providing five types
of free printer covers in the same colors as iMac bodies to 15,000 people
(or 3,000 units of each color) on a first-come, first-served basis.
The cover is part of the printer body, but can be changed by the user.
The new printers for Macintoshes are the HP DeskJet 895Cxi for 56,800
yen (121.37 yen = US$1) and the HP DeskJet 880C for 44,800 yen.
They are scheduled for launch on March 13.
Both are equipped with a universal serial bus (USB) port and have driver
software for the iMac and the Power Macintosh G3 series.
HP also is distributing the driver software at its Web
site, for connections between the current DeskJet printers in use
for Windows machines and Macintosh computers.
The sales campaign will start March 13 and will last until the printer
covers are gone.
HP is listing the names of shops for this campaign on its Web site. The
company expects sales of 60,000 ink-jet printers for Macintosh over
the next 12 months.
