Nippon Chemi-Con, Mentor Graphics to Sell Encryption Technology
|
March 12, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Mentor Graphics Japan Co., Ltd. said it is
collaborating with Nippon Chemi-Con Corp. in sales of intellectual property
(IP) related technology in the encryption area.
|
In Japan, Mentor Graphics Japan will sell and support the IP developed
by Nippon Chemi-Con.
Nippon Chemi-Con owns IP technology for enciphering circuits for the
fast data encipherment algorithm (FEAL) developed by Nippon Telegraph
and Telephone Corp.
Mentor Graphics Japan will transfer the encryption technology into software
IP using a hardware description language, and the company will then
market it.
The U.S.-based Mentor Graphics Corp.'s technology development unit in
the U.K. holds data encryption standards and the software IP for the
RSA encryption. However, these are not available in Japan because of
an embargo on the export of such technology.
This collaboration will enable Japanese users to adopt state-of-the-art
encryption technology, company officials said.
The FEAL technology features common-key encryption functions to convert
64-bit data into a cipher and vice versa. The FEAL is offered at a licensing
fee of 10 million yen (120.68 yen = US$1).
