Citibank Provides Financial Info Services Using NCTVs
|
November 2, 1998 (TOKYO) -- The Japanese branch of Citibank N.A. and
Oracle Corp. Japan have started providing financial information services
using a set-top box called NCTV and promoted by Oracle Japan.
|
They installed NCTV terminals in the 19 branches of Citibank throughout
Japan. The terminals provide customers with foreign exchange rates and
other financial information.
This is the first time for the banking industry to offer such information
to customers using the Internet/intranets inside bank branches.
NCTVs are Network Computer (NC) terminals with an additional receiving
facility for television and terrestrial broadcasting. Oracle Japan promotes
use of the equipment among corporations.
According to Oracle Japan, it is possible to build an Internet environment
by using existing television and NCTV terminals without having to purchase
Internet-compatible televisions. The cost of building an Internet/intranet
environment is reportedly less than that of using PCs.
