| Mobile Telecom Firms Eye China's Telecom Market
November 2, 1998 (BEIJING) -- China is regarded as the most important
telecommunications market by the world's leading mobile telecommunications

China is an ideal market to introduce the most advanced telecommunication

The company also set up a research and development center in Hong Kong

than double the 1996 figure.
China has become one of Siemens Ltd. China's two fastest growing markets,
after the United States, according to Juergen Lagleder, vice president
of Siemens China.
With eight joint ventures in China, Siemens expects China to become its
second largest mobile communications market this year.
China has had an annual growth rate of over 30 percentage points in telecommunications
for several consecutive years.
According to the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), growth in the
industry will remain at a rate of above 28 percent this year.
The number of Internet users in the country is increasing 200 percent
a year, four times the worldwide growth rate.
Motorola, Nokia and Ericsson now have the lion's share of China's mobile
communications market, while Alcatel, China Giant Dragon and Siemens
have the bulk of the telephone switch market.
Lucent and Nortel are the biggest companies in China's optical fiber
