  • NEC Unit Sells Software for Industrial Waste Management
  • February 17, 1999 (TOKYO) — NEC Software Ltd. announced that it will ship Environmental Partner for Manifest Management, a management software product, and that it started receiving orders from Feb. 9.
The tool expedites preparation of waste management lists (or manifests) standardized by the Health and Welfare Ministry.

For example, if a user registers such data as the names of disposal business companies, their addresses, facilities creating wastes (sites), types of disposed wastes, collecting and transport agents, and disposal companies, the management software will automatically display when a manifest is issued, according to NEC Software.

Also, it automatically creates specific formats for various types of manifest reports compiled every fiscal year by company and type of waste. Such reports must be submitted to governors in each prefecture as well as to local governments each June.

The software can help reduce wastes, because it manages the cost of waste items in monetary terms as well as the volume of waste, according to NEC Software.

A version of the software with all these capabilities is priced at 200,000 yen (US$1,760), while the version with limited features including the ministry’s standardized manifest list issuance carries a price of 50,000 yen.

Japan’s waste disposal law was revised in June 1997 and the Industrial Waste Disposal Regulations were revised in December 1998. The manifest management system was adopted to be applied to all organizations that assign operators to collect, transport and dispose of industrial wastes. Such organizations are required to submit annual reports to the concerned governments.
