  • Nippon Research Center Offers Web Audience Survey Data
  • January 5, 1999 (TOKYO) — Nippon Research Center Inc., a marketing research company, has organized the Japan Access Rating (JAR), a Web audience rating survey, as a new business.
A software program designed for the rating survey is installed in users’ personal computers, and servers collect the addresses accessed by the users and the times. A monthly report on the research findings will be available for sale.

As of Jan. 4, survey data is being collected from about 2,200 users. The survey results for January will be compiled for sale in mid-February.

The company conducted a test survey from July to August 1998 and explored the idea of organizing audience rating research for the Internet into an actual business. A total of 420 users participated in the initial test survey, and the number was increased to 2,200 to broaden the survey results.

The attributes of the sample users parallel the demographics of Japan’s Internet users.

The company sells the report covering the results of the test survey for 3,000 yen (US$25.8), and it is taking orders through its Web site.

Survey results and data after January 1999 will be offered by CD-ROM. The company offers two types of CD-ROMs, priced at 35,000 yen (US$300) and 100,000 yen (US$860), depending on the amount of data and details. It also will offer data analysis for additional charges.
