  • Mitsubishi to Replace 10,000 PCs with New NT Machines
  • January 20, 1999 (TOKYO) — Mitsubishi Corp., a major trading company, told Nikkei Computer that it is replacing 10,000 older PCs that run on Windows 3.1 with new Windows NT Workstation 4.0 machines this year.
The move marks the most significant case in which a Japanese company is introducing NT machines to upgrade its in-house computer operations. Work to replace 4,000 PCs has already been completed, the company said.

Mitsubishi is in the midst of introducing the R/3 enterprise resource planning (ERP) software package and has found that R/3 client modules are incompatible with Windows 3.1. For that reason, the company decided to replace its old PCs with more up-to-date models.

Also, it is introducing pcANYWHERE desktop management tools from Symantec Japan Inc., for use by the company’s help desk.
