Taiwan Telecom Suppliers See Big Sales in 1998
|
December 30, 1998 (TAIPEI) -- Telecommunication systems companies Taiwan
International Standard Electronics Ltd. (TISE), Lucent Technologies
Taiwan Telecommunications Co., Ltd. and Taicom Systems Ltd. reported
strong sales in 1998.
|
They were helped mainly by Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. and the deregulation
of the telecommunications industry in Taiwan.
TISE, which took in NT$4 billion in sales for all of 1997, reported more
than NT$5 billion for the first 10 months of this year alone. It expects
NT$7 billion for the full year, marking a record high.
TISE was chosen as a major supplier for Chunghwa Telecom this year. It
won a bid to construct an intelligent network for the company, and another
bid to upgrade local calls, as part of its efforts to cope with the
millennium bug. The company also supplies switching equipment for local
calls in China.
Taicom Systems expects NT$7.528 billion in sales this year, up a noticeable
70 percent from 1997. The company won orders for the construction of
base stations from Pacific Cellular Corp. and another major cell phone
company. Pacific plans to purchase equipment to service more than 2,400
base stations. Taicom also won a portion of Chunghwa's orders to upgrade
local calls.
Lucent reported NT$2 billion in sales for the first nine months of this
year. The company won base station construction orders from KG Telecom
and other private telecom firms.
