Vertex Link Releases PCs with Linux Operating System

February 18, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Vertex Link Corp. released three models
of the Linux PC Series, a so-called white box PC series, with the Linux
operating system preinstalled.

Vertex Link is an information equipment sales company.
The three models are a server model and two client PCs. Vertex Link installed
the new "Japanese version of RedHat Linux 5.2J" of Itsutsubashi Research
Co., Ltd., which is scheduled for release on March 19.
The server model comes with two 450MHz Pentium II CPUs. It is built according
to specifications, with an emphasis placed on stability. For example,
five 6.5GB HDDs are configured into a RAID5 system and a duplex power
supply is standard, and it is equipped with a built-in 40x CD-ROM drive.
The server retails for 1,128,000 yen (US$9,900).
The client model comes in two types, a space-saving type measuring 88mm
wide by 310mm deep by 300mm high, and a tower-type measuring 191mm wide
by 430mm deep by 490mm high.
The main specifications of the space-saving type model include a 333MHz
Pentium II microprocessor, 64MB of memory, a 6.5GB HDD and a 24x CD-ROM
drive, Vertex Link said.
The tower-type model has a 450MHz Pentium II microprocessor, 64MB of
memory, an 8.4GB HDD and a 40x CD-ROM drive. All models are all equipped
with a LAN interface of 100BASE-TX/10BASE-T.
The space-saving model retails for 198,000 yen (US$1,740) and the tower-type
model for 248,000 yen (US$2,180), according to Vertex Link.
For user support, Fujitsu Business Systems Ltd. will be responsible for
the hardware, and Itsutsubashi for the Linux OS.
