China Exports Office Automation Terminals to N. America
|
January 5, 1999 (BEIJING) -- The Ministry of Science and Technology announced
that China has exported to the United States, Canada and several other
countries portable mobile office automation telecom system terminals.
|
A ministry official said that the exports of the telecom product represent
a major breakthrough for China's telecom equipment industry. He said
the orders for the systems are valued at US$68 million.
In addition to telecom functions, the system can copy, scan, fax, store
and print documents. It weighs 1.2kg and is about the size of a dictionary.
The system was developed by a joint venture of the Hebei-based Hengda
Wireless Communications Group and Datang Telecom Technology Corp. The
joint venture has signed contracts with Motorola Inc. of the United
States and several other telecom equipment producers.
The Hengda Group, based in the Shijiazhuang High-Tech Development Zone
in northern China's Hebei province, has set up production bases in the
United States, Canada, Singapore and Japan. Datang is a listed high-tech
company.
