Korea's Internet Users Double to 3.3 Million
|
January 5, 1999 (SEOUL) -- The number of Internet surfers in Korea will
likely rise to 3.3 million in 1998, doubling 1997's figure of 1.64 million,
the National Computerization Agency said.
|
Also, host computers saw a 51 percent increase in 1998, with the number
of domain addresses tripling.
As of the end of November 1998, the number of registered users on Korea's
Internet recorded 3.1 million, triggering expectations the figure will
reach 3.3 million, since Internet users grow by an average of 230,000
persons every month.
The number of host computers rose 50.8 percent to 197,614, while Internet
domains tripled to 23,408, which indicates Internet use by corporations
and institutions is on a sharp rise.
"Students and business people are currently pursuing various information
via the Internet," said an industry watcher, adding the increase in
Internet users will create a brighter outlook for electronic commerce-related
businesses.
