China's Technology Exports Expand 12 Pct. in 1998
|
January 22, 1999 (BEIJING) -- China's exports of capital- and technology-intensive
industrial products in 1998 registered US$66.54 billion, for an increase
of 12.2 percent compared to 1997, according to Chinese Customs.
|
The country's overall exports in 1998 rose 0.5 percent to US$183.76 billion.
Exports of primary goods decreased by 14 percent to US$20.6 billion,
with declining exports of labor-intensive products such as garments
and accessories.
Analysts said that the rising exports of capital- and technology-intensive
products indicates improvements in China's export structure, as well
as rising quality levels. Meanwhile, they attribute the decline in exports
of primary goods to the sluggish international economy.
