  • IIJ Enters U.S. West Coast Internet Service Business
  • January 27, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ), a leading Internet service provider in Japan, announced that it set up an access point in Palo Alto, California, and started a U.S.-based Internet access service.
The access point is the second for the provider in the United States, following one set up in New York in 1997.

Also, it has started a roaming service, which allows customers in the United States or Canada to use various access points for free. The customers only need to pay the connecting charge of around 35 yen (US$0.30) a minute, an IIJ official said.

Those who can use the roaming service and Internet access service are subscribers to IIJ's dial-up connection service, the official added.
