Compaq Eyes China's Internet Market
|
March 11, 1999 (BEIJING) -- The Beijing Book Mansion, a major Asian retail
bookstore, recently introduced Compaq Computer Corp.'s online purchasing
service.

Eckhard Pfeiffer, Compaq president and CEO, said Compaq recognizes the
vast potential of China's Internet market, and will participate in a
series of projects, including online book sales and a municipal government
Internet service.
Pfeiffer also noted that his company plans to establish an electronic
business research center in Beijing.
About 18 multinational companies, including Microsoft Corp., have opened
research centers in Beijing.
Beijing Mayor Liu Qi has met with Pfeiffer and expressed that the Chinese
capital welcomes the computer company to expand its business activities.
Beijing will introduce a series of policies to develop a high-tech research
center in Zhongguancun, known as the Silicon Valley of China in northwestern
Beijing.
