  • Olympus to Market Waterproof Pouch for Digital Cameras
  • April 3, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Olympus (Japan) Co., Ltd. will release a waterproof pouch designed for its Camedia line of digital cameras on April 11, a company spokesman said.
PT-001 (See chart.) will accommodate a digital camera and protect it from water and various outside elements. By using the pouch, customers will be able to use a digital camera at the beach or in relatively dirty environments such as construction sites. The pouch will be priced at 15,000 yen (US$110).

It will be compatible with the company's Camedia C-840L, 820L and 420L models of compact digital cameras.

The pouch's main body is made of transparent polycarbonate resin, and the parts close to the lens are glass. Users will be able to turn on and off a liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor, switch the mode to shoot film using a flash bulb and press the shutter of the digital camera contained in the pouch.

The waterproof mechanism at the joint of the pouch uses an O-ring. The product, which measures 163mm by 75.5mm by 96mm and weighs 211 grams, will work at depths of three meters, the Olympus spokesman said.
