  • Sony Reveals Outline of Home Network Software
  • April 27, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Sony Corp. revealed details of the Home Network Module software, which will be licensed to Microsoft Corp. as part of their agreement announced on April 8.
    Eight companies from Japan and Europe, including Sony, announced on March 18 they had set specifications to interconnect home equipment by using the serial interface standard IEEE1394. According to Sony, Home Network Module software will be based on the final specifications.

    A function to mediate control command between equipment connected to IEEE1394 and application programs is to be included in the Home Network Module.

    Sony also revealed that the operating system to be loaded into home appliances will not be limited to Windows CE.
