Compaq, Seagate to Jointly Promote Backup Software in Japan
|
April 29, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Compaq Computer KK of Japan and Nippon
Seagate Software Inc. launched a joint marketing program in the
field of backup software.
|
The venture is part of a joint business strategy being developed
on a global scale by their parent companies, Compaq Computer
Corp. and Seagate Software Inc., both of the United States.
As the mainstay of the marketing program in Japan, a demo version
of Nippon Seagate's Backup Exec for Windows NT 7.0J (valid for 60
days) will be bundled on Compaq's tape drives for data backup.
Six Compaq tape drive models will ship with the Seagate software.
The bundled demo version provides the same functionality as the
product version. "It offers backup scheduling and autoloader
features that are not currently available with standard Windows
NT utilities," Nippon Seagate said.
If customers like the demo version, they will be able to order a
license key from Nippon Seagate or its licensed distributors. By
entering the license key, the demo version can be used as a
product version.
Backup Exec will be priced from 138,000 yen (US$1,060). Support
for the demo version will be provided by Compaq's Customer
Center.
Compaq Japan and Nippon Seagate also plan to hold joint seminars
at Compaq's Solutions Center and to cooperate in the publication
of catalogs and other technical materials.
In addition, the two companies intend to develop the Compaq
Solution Market, a program for introducing customers of one
company to products of the other.
