  • Oracle Japan, Justsystem Jointly Develop NC Content
  • April 30, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Oracle Corp. Japan demonstrated its NCTV terminal that displays Internet content jointly developed with Justsystem Corp., a major Japanese software company.
The demonstration was made at the Revolution '98 Oracle Applications NCA seminar in Tokyo.

The NCTV has been designed for home use by adding such features as a television and data broadcasting functions to Oracle's Network Computer (NC) terminal for enterprise use.

Acer Inc. of Taiwan will make the device. Several Japanese makers of home electric appliances are planning to procure NCTVs from Acer on an OEM basis. The product will be marketed at less than 50,000 yen (US$380) from this autumn.

Oracle Japan is holding talks with Internet service providers (ISPs) for the development of NCTV content. The pilot NCTV model at the seminar demonstrated Justsystem's "JustNet" Internet content with menus modified for the NCTV.

Oracle Japan has not yet decided if the contents shown at the seminar will become an official version, but it said that five ISPs are already planning to offer NCTV content by the end of 1998.
