Hyundai Electronics Develops Wide-View TFT-LCDs
|
August 6, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. of
Korea said it has developed a 15-in. thin-film transistor liquid-crystal
display (TFT-LCD) with a wide viewing angle.
|
The viewing angle is 170 degrees, both horizontally and vertically.
The company said it realized the wide viewing angle and high transmittance
using its own fringe-field switching (FFS) technology.
The company's TFT-process development division said its FFS method has
raised the transmittance of TFT-LCDs by 1.55 times over the currently
used in-plane switching (IPS) method.
The new product has 1,024 x 768 pixels and displays 16,770,000 colors.
It offers a contrast ratio of 200:1 and a luminance of 250 candela per
sq. meter. Hyundai plans to start mass production of the TFT-LCDs for
monitors around the end of 1998.
The products will be manufactured using a 550mm x 650mm glass substrate
line at its Ichon plant in Korea that started operating in the third
quarter of 1997, company officials said.
