  • Korea Electric to Resell Excalibur Knowledge Products
  • August 13, 1998 (BOSTON) -- Excalibur Technologies Corp. and Korea Electric Power Data Network Co. signed a pact under which the Korean company will resell Excalibur's knowledge retrieval products on an exclusive basis in Korea.
The reseller agreement between Vienna, Virginia-based Excalibur and Korea Electric Power Data expands an existing pact between the two firms. The Korean company will resell Excalibur's RetrievalWare line of knowledge retrieval products.

In addition, Korea Electric Power Data will sell Excalibur's new line of video analysis, search and retrieval products.

Korea Electric Power Data is the information services provider and system integrator for its parent company, Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO).

The company earlier signed an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement with Excalibur to convert Excalibur's flagship RetrievalWare product line into the Hangul (Korean language) character set, add a full Korean-language semantic network that enables concept searching and market the localized product to major corporations in Korea.

The Hangul version of RetrievalWare is a high-end knowledge delivery solution targeted at major corporations and government agencies in Korea. Using this localized product, end users will be able access Hangul information in any data type from across the enterprise and transform it into competitive knowledge.

To date, Korea Electric Power Data has sold the Hangul version of RetrievalWare to KEPCO, LG Electronics Ltd., Doosan Corp., Cosmo Co. and the Electronic and Telecommunications Research Institute.

"The agreement with Excalibur now allows us to be the exclusive provider of advanced knowledge retrieval capabilities in the Korean language," said Ahn Chan Ok, manager of systems development for the company."

"The Korea Electric Power Data-Excalibur partnership continues to grow, and we are excited about Korea Electric Power Data's commitment to deliver our solutions to this rapidly advancing market," said Pat Condo, president and CEO of Excalibur Technologies. "We continue to develop our knowledge retrieval products with a focus on accuracy and scalability as key differentiators from our competition."

KEPCO is a government-owned enterprise established to promote electric power resource development, provide efficient power generation and contribute to the stable growth of Korea's national economy by ensuring a reliable and economical supply of electric power.

Korea Electric Power Data was established in 1992 as a subsidiary of KEPCO. It has grown at a rate of 250 percent per year. In 1994, Korea Electric Power Data was named to the National Industrial Information Network business by the government and assumed operation and maintenance of computer and information systems and communication facilities from KEPCO. More than 1,200 expert engineers are working in the areas of system integration, system management, facilities automation, information and communication service.
