| Hitachi Software to Market COBOL Script for Web

August 19, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. will
start sales at the end of August of a software product called COBOL
Script, for developing Web applications using COBOL.

The product was developed by Hitachi Software and Hitachi Ltd.
When using COBOL Script on a PC with a Web browser, the browser can run
COBOL programs coded in a Web page just like VBScript and JavaScript.
The targeted browser is the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
versions for Windows.
In mid 1999, Hitachi Software also will sell another development software
package tentatively called COM-Compliant COBOL, for developing COBOL
applications by using the visual development tool Visual Studio of Microsoft
Corp.
