Tempstaff Introduces Compaq's Fingerprint ID System

August 20, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Tempstaff Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese human
resources agency, installed a fingerprint identification system from
Compaq Computer KK.

With the system installed this month, the company intends to enhance
the security performance of "TES", the company's mission critical system
to control personal information of those who have registered with it.
The fingerprint identification system comprises a PC-connected reading
device for fingerprint information and software to identify fingerprint
data pattern. Tempstaff is the first user of the system in Japan.
Tempstaff will use this system to prevent the personal information of
the registered staff from being released or accessed illegally. For
the time being, the company will apply the system to its systems staff
who are authorized to access the master data.
In January this year, the company encountered with a case where personal
information about a staff of 90,000 was leaked. The system installed
this time will play an important role in the countermeasures for such
cases.
