  • LG Semicon to Produce Direct-RDRAM Chips in October
  • August 21, 1998 (TOKYO) -- LG Semicon Co., Ltd. of Korea said that it will start mass production in October of the R72AE-840, a 72Mb Direct-Rambus dynamic random access memory (DRAM) microchip with a maximum data transfer rate of 1.6GB per second.
The company will begin sample shipments at the end of August.

Along with the D-RDRAM microchip, LG Semicon will ship the RM6418AE-840, a 64MB memory module that mounts the D-RDRAM microchips.

The D-RDRAM microchip will be used as the main memory of personal computers to be marketed by Compaq Computer Corp. and Dell Computer Corp. of the United States in 1999.

The microchip has a word configuration of x18 bit and 16 banks. The R72AE-840 uses a 72-pin micro-ball grid array (BGA) package. Its power supply voltage is 2.5V with an error range of 0.5 percent, and 0.25-micron process technology is used.

LG Semicon said that sample prices will be US$45 for the R72AE-840 and US$400 for the RM6418AE-840.
