|
August 21, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Daewoo Electronics Co., Ltd. developed a digital
television with interactive communications that it plans to introduce
by the end of 1998.
|
The digital TV includes a home-shopping network, medical consultations
and video screen conferencing.
Daewoo's digital TV follows those of Japan's Hitachi Ltd. and France
Telecom.
A company official said the newly developed system meets the Digital
Audio Visual Council international standard and is capable of multimedia
features such as the Internet, video-on-demand and digital broadcasting.
Data transmission is run though telephone lines or fiber optic cables.
The system has the ability to manage subscribers' personal information
and bills.
The system consists of a large database, computer mainframe, operating
software and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology.
For home subscribers, the system is available through a set-top box or
a personal computer monitor.
Daewoo Electronics, the nation's third-largest electronics company, has
more than 300 technology patents, including on ATM, both in the domestic
and international markets.
