Samsung Electronics Introduces Sample DDR-SDRAM Chip
|
August 25, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. said that it
will begin production of its next-generation high-speed double-data-rate
(DDR) SDRAM microchip in October.
|
Samsung said it has supplied samples of the product to U.S. computer
makers Hewlett-Packard Co. and IBM Corp., as well as to Hitachi Ltd.
of Japan.
The international market for next-generation high-speed memory microchips
comprises two main products, Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) and DDR-SDRAM chips.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics recently produced samples of RDRAMs, and
it now has the capacity to mass produce both RDRAMs and SDRAMs.
"The DDR-SDRAM has a data processing speed of 266MHz and is expected
to be adopted in data communications products, including workstations,
due to its small size, low power consumption and higher data transmission
speed," a company official said.
