HP Japan Sells More Than 100 Large Servers in FY98
|
December 1, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. said it sold more
than 100 units of large-scale UNIX servers in the HP 9000 V class in
its fiscal 1998 business year (which ended in October 1998).
|
The company received large orders from distribution and service industries.
Major uses are enterprise resource planning (ERP) and large-scale data
warehouse construction.
Because those systems require the handling of massive amounts of data,
sales of the company's EMC Corp.-made large-scale storage systems tripled
as compared to the previous year.
The company's sales of large-scale servers are about three times as large
as those of Nihon Sun Microsystems K.K., according to Masaki Iizuka,
general manager of HP Japan's Enterprises Accounts Organization.
HP Japan will strengthen its consulting division in fiscal 1999. It seeks
to increase sales of supply chain management (SCM) systems for manufacturers.
Specifically, the company aims to increase sales of SCM systems by 30
percent from the previous year.
