  • Hitachi Starts Shipping 128Mb DRAM Microchip
  • February 2, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Hitachi Ltd. started shipping a 128Mb DRAM comprising two 64Mb DRAM microchips contained in a standard IC package.

Hitachi's product has two stacked 64Mb DRAM microchips, in a 10.2mm-wide thin small outline package (TSOP).

It will offer two products: an extended data out (EDO) DRAM with an access time of 60ns, and a synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) with an operating frequency of 66MHz.

Hitachi began shipping sample EDO DRAMs at the end of January, and will start SDRAM shipments in February. The DRAMs have two types of word configurations, 16M words x 8bits and 8M words x 16bits.

A sample EDO DRAM is priced at 7,500 yen (US$60), and a sample SDRAM at 10,000 yen (US$80).
