  • Daewoo, SGS Thompson Set Up JV Semicon Plant
  • February 9, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Daewoo Electronics Co., Ltd. and SGS Thompson SA of France established a joint venture semiconductor design plant.

The plant, called the Daewoo ST Semiconductor Design Co., will develop non-memory semiconductors widely used in multimedia products, including digital TVs and versatile digital disks.

The two companies plan to invest US$40 million in the plant over the next three years and use Thompson's plants in France as their production base.

Daewoo Electronics, which has been seeking to own a semicon plant, is expected to intensify tie-ups with Thompson in other businesses, including joint development on strategic items.
