February 9, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Toshiba Corp. started selling a 15-in. TTF-LCD panel that can be rotated 90 degrees with a special display driver installed in a personal computer. From Japan

The rotation allows two setting directions, vertically longer or horizontally longer.

The new product is being sold as an option to Toshiba's Equium desktop PC series for business users. Sales for personal use are not planned.

The price is 298,000 yen (US$2,400) without a universal serial bus hub or 308,000 yen (US$2,480) with the bus hub. Shipments will start in mid-February. (See chart.)

This TFT-LCD panel can be rotated even when the PC is in operation.

The display area is 304mm long and 228mm wide, almost corresponding to a 17-in. CRT display. The resolution is 1,024 x 768 pixels, and the number of colors is 260,000 maximum.

The external dimensions are 396mm wide, 405mm high and 260mm deep when the display is set horizontally longer. They are 322mm wide, 450mm high and 260mm deep when set vertically longer. It weighs 5kg.
