  • Nanao Shows Prototype 18.1-in. TFT-LCD at MacWorld
  • February 26, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Nanao Corp. exhibited a prototype 18.1-in. TFT-LCD monitor at MacWorld Expo/Tokyo 1998 held Feb. 18-21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, near Tokyo.
E181L has a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 pixels. An SXGA-compatible 32cm x 28cm display attracted a crowd of visitors at the firm's booth. Some visitors said they are thinking about replacing their CRT displays with an LCD, and asked about the shipment schedule and price of the new model. (See chart)

The LCD monitor uses an analog RGB interface. It has two D-sub 15 pin connectors and can be connected to two personal computers at the same time. Users can switch from one PC to another to display images on the monitor. The LCD has a horizontal viewing angle of 140 degrees and a vertical angle of 110 degrees, with a planned brightness of 200cd/m2.

Because the model displayed at the exhibition was a prototype, a smooth, still uncoated display reflected the surrounding view. However, the commercialized product will not have that problem. The pedestal used temporarily for the demonstration was too big and looked disproportionate, but the company also plans to improve the part in time for commercialization.

The price and specification details of the product have not yet been decided. Nanao plans to ship the product in the spring of 1998.
