  • July 8, 1998 (GUANGZHOU, China) -- U.S.-funded projects in Guangzhou , in China's Guangdong Province, recorded a total 1997 output value of more than RMB10 billion (US$1.2 billion).
Guangzhou's 273 U.S.-funded projects involve a combined contractual investment of some US$1.03 billion.

Some 95 U.S.-funded enterprises have opened offices in Guangzhou, including two banks and six insurance companies.

Some 21 U.S. companies on the world's top 500 list have invested in the city.

A total of 194 companies, or 80 percent of the total U.S.-funded projects in Guangzhou, have invested in the manufacturing industry and contributed to improving and upgrading the city's light industrial sector.
