  • China Launches Foreign Trade, Chinese Market Web Sites
  • July 10, 1998 (BEIJING) -- China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) has launched an official Web site, www.moftec .gov.cn and a Web site on the China market, www .chinamarket.com.cn.
    The main Web site offers information on Chinese companies, trade statistics and laws and regulations. The ministry claims that it attracted 60,000 visits on July 1, its first day.

    According to Xing Wei, director of MOFTEC's China International Electronic Commerce Center (CIECC), the China market Web site has been visited 562,000 times by people from the United States, Canada , Japan, and other countries and regions.

    The China market Web site provides information on six major product categories. They are electronics and machinery; textiles; light industry and crafts; foodstuffs, native products and animal by -products; hardware, minerals and chemicals; medicine and nutritional products.

    Shi Guangsheng of MOFTEC said the Web site is a solid step by China to move into the age of e-commerce.
