| Saehan Industries to Make Rechargeable Batteries

July 15, 1998 (SEOUL) -- As part of its restructuring effort, Saehan
Industries Co. announced July 13 that it set up a company to
produce rechargeable batteries, to become a core business.

The company plans to produce lithium-ion batteries used in notebook
computers and mobile phones, along with lithium-polymer batteries.
Saehan said it will complete development of technology for the
batteries and build production facilities by June 1999. It will
start production and sales by 2000.
A division of the company will focus on finding new applications for
rechargeable batteries for the Korean market, and will later market
the products overseas.
