Microsoft Launches BackOffice Software for Chinese SMEs
|
July 27, 1998 (SHANGHAI, China) -- Microsoft Corp. recently launched
a new Chinese BackOffice software version designed for small and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs).
|
The new product offers businesses with two to 25 computers a platform
to link staff members, customers and management, according to a Microsoft
engineer.
Microsoft, IBM Corp., Compaq Computer Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and
China's largest computer company, the Legend Group, announced an alliance
when the new BackOffice version became available in China.
The alliance will work with local software developers and Internet providers
on business computing solutions for small companies.
China has more than 10 million SMEs, accounting for 99 percent of all
its enterprises in the country. These small enterprises generate 60
percent of the nation's industrial output, and employ 70 percent of
all workers.
A survey also indicated that small companies using computers connected
to the Internet or platforms have 20 percent more sales than the companies
without such capabilities.
Small businesses in China are increasingly aware of the importance of
information technology in management, and have started to take appropriate
measures to enhance their capabilities, industry sources said.
