  • [Computex Taipei '98] Computex Show Focuses on Pentium II Xeon Motherboards
  • June 2, 1998 (TAIPEI) -- Pentium II Xeon motherboards are likely to take center stage at Computex Taipei '98, a major annual Taiwan computer show running from June 2-6.
The Pentium II Xeon is a high-end Pentium II processor that Intel Corp. plans to release in late 1998. Taiwan makers are strong at producing motherboards for such processors.

Industry experts expect notebook PCs with the Pentium II Xeon processor and motherboard to be priced lower than US$ 1,000 with an internal DVD-ROM drive.

In addition, peripherals and devices for such systems are expected to be showcased at Computex Taipei '98, such as 19-in. CRT displays and digital cameras, which Taiwan makers currently are putting a great deal of effort into manufacturing. Wireless keyboards also should be on exhibit.

Exhibitions like Comdex and CeBIT are known for showcasing new technologies and products one year away. Computex Taipei Computex makes its mark as an important show where users can look at products that will be in shop fronts in several months. Around 900 Taiwan PC and related equipment makers will be at the show.

The two sponsoring industry organizations, China External Trade Development Council and Taipei Computer Association, expect the number of overseas visitors to exceed those of last year by 1,300 to reach 17,000, including 3,000 to 4,000 Japanese buyers.
