Taiwan Production of Desktop PCs Up 64 Pct in Q1
|
June 29, 1998 (TAIPEI) -- Taiwan's desktop personal computer
production volume in the first quarter of 1998 reached 2.906
million units, up 64.2 percent over the first quarter of 1997.
|
First quarter 1998 production value also grew 62.9 percent over the
same period the previous year, according to a survey from the
Market Intelligence Center (MIC) of Institute for Information
Industry (III) of Taiwan.
With the successful implementation of global logistics, large OEM
/ODM orders have been rolling in to major Taiwan PC firms Acer Corp.
and Mitac Inc.
Influenced by strong global demand and large orders coming in from
the United States, production volume for Taiwan's notebook PCs
reached 1.24 million units.
As 12.1-in. LCDs have become the market mainstream product, prices
have remained relatively high, and as a result, growth in
production value is still higher than production volume. Notebook
PC production value in the first quarter of 1998 was US$1.872
billion, up 29.5 percent over the first quarter of 1997.
Production volume of desktop and notebook PCs combined reached a
total of 4.146 million units in the first quarter of 1998, up 50.9
percent over the first quarter of 1997. Combined production value
reached a total of US$3.631 billion, up 43.7 percent over the same
period in 1997.
