  • Toshiba Info to Set Up Microsoft BackOffice Center
  • March 5, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Toshiba Information Equipments Co., Ltd. decided to establish a BackOffice Migration Center (BOMC), a technical support group to manage the migration of software assets of office computers to client-server systems based on Microsoft Corp.'s BackOffice.
Microsoft Co., Ltd. of Japan encourages the establishment of BOMCs as a part of its strategy to widen its office computer dealer network.

Toshiba Information, which is a fully owned subsidiary of Toshiba Corp., is a computer-related equipment distributor.

Technical support will be provided to TIE's systems engineers, office computer distribution dealers and value added resellers (VARs). Uchida Yoko Co., Ltd., Kyudenko Corp. and Sumisho Computer Systems Corp. have already established BOMCs and Toshiba Information will be the fourth company to do so.

Toshiba Information's BOMC, to be set up at its headquarters facilities, will have 14 engineers with expertise in application software, databases, networking and development languages. It will start operations on April 1.

The new BOMC is expected to handle consultations at the time of migration to BackOffice-based systems and development of industry-type business packages for small to medium-sized businesses. Also, it will provide technical education for computer dealers and VARs. Microsoft will cooperate in the operation of the BOMC, and it will offer advance information on its product releases and provide support in product marketing.
