  • Sales Prices of 14-in. LCD PC Monitors Decline
  • March 10, 1998 (TOKYO) -- The average retail price of 14-inch and 14.1-in. XGA (extended graphics array) color thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) monitors dropped by about 4 percent as of March 2, as compared with a month earlier.
    Nikkei Microdevices surveyed the average retail prices of LCD monitors sold at Laox, a major PC retail store in Akihabara, Tokyo. The survey covered five models.

    Nikkei Microdevices said the average price was 187,400 yen (US$1,474), and the range was 163,000 yen to 228,000 yen.

    The average price of the four models of 15-in. XGA color TFT-LCD monitors was 252,250 yen (US$1,984), a decline of 7.6 percent from the previous month. The prices varied from 208,000 yen to 325,000 yen.

    On the other hand, 10 models of 17-in. SXGA CRT monitors were priced between 54,800 yen and 96,800 yen. Because of many new releases, the average price was 73,100 yen (US$575), an increase of about 1 percent compared with the previous month.
