  • Jiangsu Reports Growth in Telecommunications
  • May 28, 1998 (NANJING, China) -- The telecommunications sector of Jiangsu Province experienced steady growth in recent years, according to the official statistics.
    Currently, Jiangsu has 6.53 million telephone users and 1.08 million mobile phone subscribers, equivalent to 15.5 telephones per 100 people.

    Jiangsu's telecommunications network, consisting of telephones, mobile phones, digital communications and multimedia communications, is the second largest in China, next to Guangdong Province.

    As the telecommunications network expands, people in Jiangsu now can dial to more than 180 countries and regions.

    The Province's first telephone was installed in the city of Suzhou in 1898.
