Electronic Business Becomes Popular in China
|
November 2, 1998 (XIAMEN, China) -- Electronic business is gaining popularity
in China, with 78.1 percent of the country's one million-plus Internet
users saying they want to shop online.
|
To meet this demand, cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiamen
have opened online home pages since the spring of 1996.
The Web site of an online shopping outlet (www.hot100.com.cn) started
by the First General Merchandise Co., Ltd. of Xiamen, Fujian province,
has proven a success.
Some 210,000 people from Japan, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and many
other countries have visited the Web site since the Xiamen company opened
it in September 1997.
Che Wancheng, the company's general manager, said that e-commerce has
helped them increase sales, better understand market trends and been
a good publicity tool.
More than 30 factories in Xiamen have opened home pages using the Web
site address of Che's company.
Che predicted that by the end of this year, there will be some 100,000
people looking at his company's Web site address each month.
According to market research firm International Data Corp., US$7.6 billion
worth of goods were sold over the Internet globally last year.
