Fujitsu to Reorganize Singapore Microchip Assembly Plant
|
November 9, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Fujitsu Ltd. announced that in response to
the deterioration of its DRAM microchip sector's profitability, it will
reorganize its Singapore semiconductor assembly plant.
|
The Jurong plant of Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte. Ltd., based in
Singapore, has performed the testing process for DRAMs as well as assembly
and testing of compound semiconductors.
Its test equipment for DRAMs will be sold to United Test & Assembly (UTAC)
of Singapore as early as January 1999. Later, Fujitsu plans to contract
out the DRAM testing process to UTAC.
Fujitsu said the assembly and testing processes for compound semiconductors
will be transferred to Fujitsu Quantum Device Ltd. In line with the
move, the company will establish a subsidiary of Fujitsu Quantum Device
in Singapore. That unit, to be set up in February 1999, will likely
be called Fujitsu Quantum Devices Singapore Pte., Ltd.
