| Toshiba, IBM to Transfer TFT-LCD Technology to China

October 1, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Toshiba Corp. and IBM Corp. reached an agreement
with China's National Electronics Import and Export Jilin and Jilin
Electronics to transfer production technology for thin-film transistor
liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels.

Jilin Electronics will complete a new plant as early as mid-1999 and
start producing TFT-LCD panels from the end of 1999. The company will
be the first manufacturer of TFT-LCD panels in China.
Display Technology Inc. (DTI), Toshiba's and IBM's joint venture that
makes TFT-LCD panels, will collaborate in the construction of the new
production lines. DTI will supply Jilin Electronics with part of its
current production equipment.
Jilin Electronics was founded in February 1998, and it is manufacturing
super-twisted nematic (STN) LCDs and twisted nematic (TN) LCDs at present.
